To believe the bountiful and extravagant lore of the tech field, you would think that dropping out of college was the golden portal to success in technology. A roll-call of names who did this includes: Jobs, Wozniak, Zuckerberg, Gates, Dell and Ellison … just to list a few.
Before you believe that dropping out is the tao of success, consider this statement from Harvard President Drew Gilpin Faust. She reminds us that for every iconoclastic tech god, their companies require legions of people who have education and training in a variety of fields, in order to maintain that success.
